Rica Erickson
Frederica Lucy Erickson née Sandilands was born 10 August 1908 at Boulder. She served as a country schoolteacher and in 1936 married a Bolgart farmer and had four children. A self-taught artist, botanist and historian, she has published on wildflowers and history, and edited ten volumes of the Dictionary of Western Australians. A Fellow of the Royal Western Australian Historical Society, the Genealogical Society of W.A. and the Fellowship of Australian Writers, she was awarded an honorary DLitt by the University of Western Australia in 1980, the Order of Australia in 1987, and was WA Citizen of the Year in 1980.
