Ocean View

Ocean View, 134 Solomon Street, was the home of the first Federal member for Fremantle, Elias Solomon. Capt Frank Biddles was the next owner. During WW1 he leased the house to be used as a military hospital for American sailors. It was later a maternity hospital run by Annie Sheedy. Her grandson Jack Sheedy was born there.

Ocean View in 1985, in Skip Watkins' photo Fremantle City Library Local History Collection #E000287, with this caption: Ocean View is an example of a substantial dwelling built in what was a semi-rural area in the second half of the nineteenth century, with some of the original outbuildings extant. It is significant for service as a maternity hospital during the interwar years and has close associations with Elias Solomon, who was a figure of influence in the public and business life of Fremantle in the latter half of the nineteenth century. Elias Solomon was also a significant figure in the Western Australian Jewish community of that time.
