Ocean View
Ocean View, 134 Solomon Street, was the home of the first Federal member for Fremantle, Elias Solomon. Capt Frank Biddles was the next owner. During WW1 he leased the house to be used as a military hospital for American sailors. It was later a maternity hospital run by Annie Sheedy. Her grandson Jack Sheedy was born there.

Ocean View in Fremantle City Library Local History Collection photo #1942 [not the year, which is unknown] with this caption: Ocean View was erected for Elias Solomon in 1887. Elias Solomon was Mayor of Fremantle, 1889-1891, 1896-1898, and 1900-1901. He was MLA for Fremantle from October 1892 to April 1901 and MHR for Fremantle from 1901 to 1903. In the 1920s the building was used as a maternity home by Nurse Sheedy.

Elias Solomon was Mayor of Fremantle from 1889 to1891, 1896 to 1898 and 1900 to 1901. He was MLA for South Fremantle from October 1892 to April 1901 and MHR for Fremantle from 1901 to 1903. In the 1920s and 1930s the house was used as a maternity home, run by Nurse Sheedy. When the hospital closed in 1938/39 the building again became a private home. It is classified by the National Trust.

Ocean View in 1985, in Skip Watkins' photo Fremantle City Library Local History Collection #E000287, with this caption: Ocean View is an example of a substantial dwelling built in what was a semi-rural area in the second half of the nineteenth century, with some of the original outbuildings extant. It is significant for service as a maternity hospital during the interwar years and has close associations with Elias Solomon, who was a figure of influence in the public and business life of Fremantle in the latter half of the nineteenth century. Elias Solomon was also a significant figure in the Western Australian Jewish community of that time. Photograph is part of a project funded by the City of Fremantle to photograph National Trust classified properties in Fremantle
