Anglican Rectory

Library:
The Rectory was on Lots 252 and 253; 238 Cantonment Street. The Rectory was built before 1908 and demolished in 1926 for the Goldsborough Mort Woolstore - the 'northern woolstore' between Goldsbrough and Parry Streets, which in 2022 is derelict.

According to a Heritage Council document, the rectory was 'relocated' to the corner of Queen and High Streets (I assume it was the NW corner).

Tennis courts at the rear of the rectory were used by the St John's Tennis Club, which was later absorbed into the Fremantle Lawn Tennis Club at Parry/Ellen Streets.

Library:
The tennis courts used by the St John's Tennis Club were at the rear of the Rectory, which was on Lots 252 and 253; 238 Cantonment Street. The Rectory was built before 1908 and demolished in 1926 for the Goldsborough Mort Woolstore (the Northern Woolstore).

The turret in the centre background is that of the Caledonian Hall which dates from 1903 and is still extant in James Street, cnr Quarry Street. The photograph was therefore taken facing east and the houses visible were on Cantonment Street. Perhaps the one on the right is the rectory.

St John's Tennis Club was absorbed into the Fremantle Lawn Tennis Club.
