Albert
Prince Albert, aka Duke of York, the man who would be King George VI, visited in 1927 with his wife, formerly Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, later known as the Queen Mother (because she was still a queen and also the mother of Queen Elizabeth II).

Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of York visited Fremantle in 1927. The Royal pair were everywhere received with the utmost enthusiasm, the loyalty and devotion of the people being strikingly demonstrated at each public appearance. Hitchcock: 85.

I'm guessing that this photo shows part of the public reaction to the visit of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York. Thanks to the Fremantle Library Local History Collection for this c. 1930 photo #2382. The photograph was taken from by George Davidson from the rear of the McIlwraith McEacharn building on the occasion of some important arrival from the south wharf. People are lined up on either side of Cliff Street to see them. It may well be the arrival of the Duke and Duchess of York in 1927.

Shaking hands with the Duke is Councillor J.M. Farrell. Councillor J.E. Wilson is waiting to be presented. In the rear are G.F. Pearce (left) and J.T. Franklin (right)'. Mayor Frank Gibson is standing next to the Duchess and performing the introductions. The library has another Illidge photo showing a different handshake.

They are standing on what the Duchess of Cornwall, Princess Mary of Teck, had named Victoria Quay in 1901 - with one of the transit sheds in the background.

If I recall correctly, this last photo was taken by Izzy Orloff. I think it was on display in the Fremantle Library and I snapped in on my phone, whence the reflection of the fluoros. That's the Fremantle Mayor, Frank Gibson, with the Duke. From the clothing, it would be the same occasion as in the photo two above.>
