Falkirk Hotel

c. 1899-1902 Falkirk Avenue Maylands

falkirktavern

Around 1899-1902, the Falkirk Tavern was on Falkirk Avenue Maylands, apparently across Caledonian Avenue from the Mephan Ferguson Pipe Works factory, presumably serving as a watering-hole for the workers there.

In this 1899 photograph, colourised by John McLennan of the MPHS, the Tavern is the long building on the left-hand side of Caledonian Road in the middle of the photo, opposite the factory buildings on the right. According to Cr Elli Petersen-Pik, from whose website the image is taken, the crossing road in the foreground is Guildford Road. However, Falkirk Avenue is (now) parallel to Caledonian Avenue on the south side of Guildford Road.
