'Fremantle Dockers'
The 'Fremantle Dockers' is the nickname of a business, the Fremantle Football Club Limited, that is involved in the sports entertainment industry.
It is not a 'club', is no longer in Fremantle, and 'dockers' is a misnomer in that waterside workers in Fremantle were not so called. Their original organisation, the Lumpers Union, was active from 1889 until, in 1946, it became part of the Waterside Workers Federation, and then the Maritime Union of Australia.
The business's headquarters are in Cockburn. It is the property of the WA Football Commission, and is run by a board of directors, the president of which is currently a property developer. Events in WA are staged in Burswood, near the casino.
