Dr William Payne Birmingham

Dr William Payne Birmingham arrived in 1888. He was married to Isabel Rose Whitfield, daughter of Edward Goldsmith and Susan Jane Whitfield. In Fremantle he was physician in partnership with Henry Lotz and John Aloysius Roughan. He had qualified MMBS in Dublin in 1887 and returned there to become an MD in 1894. He conducted the first maternity hospital in Fremantle and commenced the Birmingham Infant Health Centre in Parry Street. He was also Honorary Medical Officer to Fremantle Hospital from 1897 to 1915.
