William Hooper
Horologist William Hooper traded in premises on Lot 106 High Street (now no. 49) from 1881 to 1940/41. A large clock extended out over the street from the building's facade. It would not be legal now.
William Hooper supplied and installed the Town Hall clock, which arrived from England aboard the SS Port Darwin on 4 April 1888. (Library)
Hooper's clock may be seen right in the middle of Pickering's c. 1897 photo, SLWA#11525C (which the library made available in Facebook)
