William Lamb
An early settler, William Lamb/e, who arrived 23 August 1829 on the Marquis of Anglesea, was granted some of the first town lots in Fremantle, namely 3, 5, 18, 99/100, 279. His daughter Cora Lamb was granted lot 378 (although born 1827). Town lot 5 is on the NW corner of High and Cliff Streets. It was the site first of Daniel Scott's house, and then of the extant Union Bank of Australia. George Shenton built an impressive house on lot 3.
LAMB, William, b. 1797, d. 1853, arr. 23.8.1829 per Marquis of Anglesea with wife Margaret b. 1803 d. 7.1844 (in fit of insanity). Chd. Cora Matilda b. 1827 d. 1861, William Henry b. 1829, Corbin b. 1832 (WA). Agriculturist. Arr. with servant James Gill & was granted 8119 acres Swan Loc 5 which on 11.1830 was transferred to G.F. Moore. ?Visited England. Mr & Mrs Lamb arr. 23.12.1837 per Eleanor. In 3.1849 he sailed with one of his sons per Arpenteur to S.A. to join his son Edmund.
Why is the son called Edmund not listed with the other children?
G.F. Moore records that William and Margaret Lamb (having returned to England before 1837) came back to the colony on the Eleanor in December 1837. (Moore, Millendon Memoirs: 435.)
Lamb gave half his grant on the Upper Swan at Millendon as consideration for Moore's fulfilling the 'location duties' (by making improvements) to the whole. (Moore, Millendon Memoirs: 2, 4, 11.)
The WAGS (Family History WA) page for the Marquis of Anglesea spells the family name with an E, as Lambe, gives the wife's name as Mary Ann, and has the three children as Cora Matilda, Henry, and Robert Ansell.
