Frederick Mason Jnr

Frederick Mason (1872-1961) was the son of Frederick May/Mason (1839-1921) and Amelia (d. 1876, née Garden). The father was born in 1839 as Frederick May, and changed his name for some purposes to Frederick Mason, and was also known as John Mason. His birth was registered as May, but he was known as Mason.

Frederick Jnr married Dora McLoughlin (b. 1872, daughter of Thomas and Bridget). Their children were Amelia Evelyn (Evie) Watt, Margaret Stella Rowbottom, Veronica (Vera) Hatton, Walter Frederick (Wally) Mason, Charles Henry Mason and two others (geni). Fred and Dora celebrated their Silver Wedding in Riley Road, Claremont, 1919. Their children married mostly in 1920s. She died 19 November 1938 at Claremont.

mason family

The Mason family at Mason's Gardens (now in Dalkeith). In the 1900s their cottage was built from bricks made at Crawley. Dora Mason, Evelyn, Stella, Vera, Frederick and Charles Mason, and possibly a Chinese workman at the rear. Ros May thinks that's Frederick behind his family, dressed more appropriately for his community standard than his brother Charles on the right, dressed for gardening. Dora and the childen are also in their Sunday best. (Williams and the Post have them the other way around.)
