17 June. HMS Sulphur lands with a detachment of the 63rd Regiment. On this day, at Rous Head in North Fremantle, Lieutenant-Governor James Stirling’s proclamation establishing the British ‘settlement’ of Western Australia was read to the 63rd Regiment. Or maybe it was the next day.
